A new venture

After much consideration we have decided to make our next travel experience  be a cruise.

I have always considered cruising to be something for "blue haired widows" or " honeymooners". Needless to say I fit neither category nor does my bride of many years. We both have a strong aversion to organized travel and have always made our own plans and arrangements but there comes a time in life when having someone do the heavy lifting is probably a good idea.

By taking a cruise you leave almost all this heavy lifting to some else. All you have to do is lift your credit card ,and pretty high at that, and sign up.

Considering our aversion to too much organization we decided that only a couple of the cruise lines offered both destinations that we found interesting and enough freedom of choice when on board to make us feel that we were, at least to some extent, masters of our own fate!

Our final choice was the "Norwegian Cruise Line" which under its banner of "Freestyle Cruising" seemed to offer the most flexibility and the best chance of keeping the blue haired ladies and wild honeymooners at bay! As for a route we chose the Panama Canal as it was a new area for both of us and included shore visits to interesting areas in Mexico,Guatemala,Costa Rica,Panama and Venezuela It even makes a stop at Cabo San Lucas where we lived for almost 11 years..... I am not sure if it safe for me to go ashore there.

The voyage will take 15 days departing from Los Angeles on September the 27th and terminating in Miami -- the peak of the hurricane season! Perhaps that is why there was a pretty good deal on the tickets.

This blog will chronicle our preparation for the trip, perhaps some back ground on the planned visits and when under way daily posting and images in the on board WiFi Internet connection works as promised.

We have already downloaded the menus and wine lists so the most important planning is underway.
